1. Level setting
Level 1: Senior translation level, requiring a solid theoretical foundation of translation and rich practical experience.
Level 2: Intermediate translation level, with certain translation ability and able to undertake general translation work.
Level 3: Beginner translation level, which belongs to the entry level of translation and is suitable for beginners or people with certain language foundation.
2. Content and form of the examination
Translation: "Comprehensive Translation Ability" examines the basic knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension; "Practical Translation" examines the actual translation ability of French to Chinese and Chinese to French. The examination is conducted by paper and pen.
Interpretation: The Comprehensive Ability Test for Interpretation (Level 3 and Level 2) is conducted through listening, interpreting, and written responses. In the Practical Interpretation Test, Level 3 candidates take the alternate interpretation test, while Level 2 and above candidates also take the simultaneous interpretation test (Level 2 candidates can choose to take either the alternate or simultaneous interpretation test). The test uses on-site recording. For Level 1, only the Practical Interpretation Test is administered.
3. Scoring criteria
Each subject's test paper is scored out of 100 points, with a passing score of 60 points. For the second and third-level exams, certificates are issued upon achieving the passing score in each subject; for the first-level exam, only a score notification is provided. Scores that meet the national unified passing line remain valid indefinitely, while scores that meet the committee's threshold but not the national standard are only valid for the current evaluation.
4. Examination time arrangement
The registration period for the 2025 French CATTI exam is from April 9 to April 28, with the exam scheduled for June 21 to 22. Typically, the French CATTI exam is held once a year in the first half of the year. The exact dates will be announced in advance, and candidates should keep a close eye on the announcements from the China Personnel Examination Network or the CATTI official website.
